Iñaki LAZKOZ’s painting is a beautiful metaphor of the human gaze. It is not the eye that sees, but the look, subjective, that abducts fragments of reality and records them in our memory. A gaze that chooses and grabs instants, incorporating them inside of us. His paintings evoke landscapes of moments lived, or perhaps dreamed, that one day we contemplated, and which persist in our memory in the form of distant fragmented images. Images that, stripped of their own environment, acquire in these paintings a magical and rested presence. They are serene landscapes, at the same time desolate, bathed by a silent light always unreal, whose atmosphere gives a spectral air to the objects it surrounds. The compositions are clear, the edges outlined. The drawing, very elaborate, records precise moments that reflect, not the objectivity of the sight that captures the real, but the subjective will of the gaze that one day wanted to kidnap from reality a fragment and whose vestige only our memory owns. The painting, as always, is a question of gaze.
